Many people will look to save money on used pallet racks but if you do your homework you will discover there are no bargains in used pallet racks. You will find it difficult to find the dimensions you need. Most companies use a standard 48"L x 40"w pallet, but you rarely find beams 96"L in the capacity you need. Usually people buy larger beams than necessary wasting valuable space and possible vertical locations. Also, most used beams are 99" or longer, wasting horizontal space. Since pallet racks usually are financed for a short period of time, the cost of the space lost in your warehouse outweighs the cost of buying longer beams than necessary. We don't sell used racking for these reasons but also because much of it is slightly damaged, therefore you will find it nearly impossible and definitely more expensive to install, and if your lucky you won't have to buy more racks to replace the damaged ones. This would really make the cost of used racking higher than new since there is only a 10-20% price difference between new pallet racks and used pallet rack. Most people look for teardrop pallet racks since they are the most common and therefore easiest to add on to. Safety is another reason not to buy used pallet racks, especially in seismic zones such as California, Oregon, Washington & Nevada. These states require permits to assure that the pallet racks have been designed to specifications by a certified seismic engineer. Every application is different because every factor determines the pallet rack design. The height of the first beam, pallet size & weight, height of each upright and beam spacing are all factors in designing pallet racks in seismic zones. A myth is that all teardrop pallet rack is the same and therefore interchangable with different brands. The truth is that the beam connectors that contain the rivets that slide in the upright holes can be different widths, and therefore will not allow the beam to seat completely into the upright. I had a large customer buy teardrop pallet racks from several manufacturers and the beams were falling off and the pallets were falling to the floor. Luckily no one was hurt but the money they lost on the damaged merchandise and paying us to bolt all the beams to the uprights outweighed the cost of buying new racks from one manufacturer. Feel free to call us and a pallet rack specialist will be glad to assist you.
